Objective

The “Digital Construction Switzerland” syndicate informs and coordinates the relevant organizations and partners of the entire value added chain “planning, construction and operation” with the focus on the mutual goal: To support the Swiss construction market during the transformation to digital construction and to preserve competitiveness, also internationally. The breadth of pending tasks cannot be performed by a single organization alone. They promote mutual national understanding, coordinate demand and supply and actively support implementation. Foundation

Digital Construction Switzerland was founded formally at the Swissbau 2016 on 01/13/2016.

Strategy

The Digital Construction Switzerland syndicate connects the networks of the construction business in Switzerland. The organizations and partners involved help form the change and mutually trigger the required measures. This helps them provide for a consensus among the participants. The representatives of the organizations and partners bring the information and results back to their organizations and thereby provide for comprehension within the respective technical jargon.

Organization

The executive board consists of three to a maximum of 30 members and represents the value-added chain. They formulate the strategic direction and examine this periodically. The control committee consists of three to a maximum of ten members and is selected by the executive board and composed of their members. They control the projects from “Digital Construction Switzerland” and assign a branch with the operative management of the association. The 1st general meeting was held on April 12, 2016 in Zürich, ETH Zürich Hönggerber. At this meeting, our president, Susanna Caravatti-Flechin, in the superior executive board was voted as a representative of IFMA Switzerland and Carsten Druhmann, a member of IFMA Switzerland, was selected for the control committee.

Definition BIM

BIM is a method together with virtual planning and construction, therefore, the planning process. The connection of geometric models and information management is key here. The digital model combines building geometry with information about the structure, construction and performance of buildings. Digital construction elements have properties and “know” how they are connected. The FM orders BIM. We must be able to formulate our requirements so that they are illustrated in BIM. BIM allows for simulation, but it is simultaneously the basis for modeling buildings so that our operating processes are correctly represented.

Members

Members are legal people. The composition is very heterogeneous: The association consists of companies, educational institutes, associations and public institutions.

Propositions

Digital Construction Switzerland has six propositions:

  • Digitalization networks the value-added process

  • Digitalization changes the cooperation culture

  • The construction industry implements digitalization

  • Digitalization revolutionizes work aids

  • Digitalization rearranges rights and obligations

  • Digitalization generates new business models

Messages

Digital Construction Switzerland from IFMA representatives: “Thanks to BIM, the operating procedures of a building can be determined during planning and directly taken over during operation.” Andres Stierli, Board of Directors «Through simulation, BIM allows for concrete benefits for facility management and thereby massively increases efficiency during operation.»
Susanna Caravatti-Felchlin, Board of Directors
